GENIUŠAS LUKAS

He was born on July 1, 1990 in Moscow in a family of great musical traditions. He began studying piano the age of 5. His grandmother, Vera Gornostaeva, a prominent educator and professor at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, has  been so far his first teacher and mentor.

Before 12 years old Lukas took part in international competitions and festivals, including: the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition for Youth 2004 in Moscow (Second Award), the Youth Piano Competition of Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City 2005 (Second Award),the International Piano Competition in Scotland 2007 ( Second Award); the 7th Youth Competition in Russia 2008 (gold medal); the 3rd Piano Competition in San Marino (Second Award), the International Piano Competition "Musica della Val Tidone" in Pianello, Italy, 2009 (First Award), the International Competiiton of Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City 2010 (First Award).

He Is the winner of second award at the 16th Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2010 and the special award of Frederic Chopin Association for the best performance of polonaise in the second phase. Lukas has performed with many symphonic orchestras i.a: in Hamburg and Duisburg in Germany, the BBC Scottish Symphony, Kremerata Baltica, National Polish Radio Symphony in Katowice, National Philharmonic and he has collaborated with such prominent conductors as: Gidon Kremer, Andrey Boreyko, Saulius Sondeckis, Dmitrij Sitkovetsky, Antoni Wit, Roman Kofman, Dmitrij Liss and Juozas Domarkas. The pianist has performed in France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland, Lithuania, Japan, South Korea, USA, Germany and China.

Lukas Geniusas has performed in festivals in Duszniki Zdroj, Rheingau, Ruhr and Lockenhaus. The current concert season includes performances in Brazil, Canada and Japan, recitals in Italy, France and Switzerland, as well as a European tour with Kremerata Baltica. Season 2012/2013 brought Lukas a tour across Denmark, debut in the Verdi Hall in Milan and re-concerts
with the Utah Symphony in Salt Lake City. On 1 March 2012, in the Chopin's birthday, the pianist presented for the first time in the history of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw all the three sonatas of our greatest composer along with a direct radio broadcasting in the 2nd Program Polish Radio.

Lukas Geniušas has a rich repertoire extending from Baroque to pieces of contemporary composers. Despite his young age, he can boast about a repertoire covering 10 solo programs and 12 of piano concerts. He performs i.a. 24 Chopin's, Hammerklavier's and Beethoven's etiudes, I Brahms Sonata , Liszt Sonata in B minor as well as  Hindemith's "Ludus Tonalis" . Lukas is a keen performer of chamber music: he plays in duets, trios, quintets. He is open to new pieces of contemporary composers.

He has already released 4 CDs - the recent solo pieces by Chopin and piano concerts in E minor with Polish Chamber Philharmonic under the baton of Wojciech Rajsk for the music company DUX.
