Prof. Janina Tatarska is an outstanding Polish music theorist, musicologist, and educator, affiliated with the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. She obtained her higher education degree in music theory from the Academy of Music in Poznań, followed by doctoral studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She earned her doctorate in humanities in history in 1990 from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, based on her dissertation "Łucjan Kamieński – musicologist, composer."
Until 2015, she headed the Department of Music Theory at the Academy of Music in Poznań, where she is currently employed as a professor. She organizes national and international scientific conferences as part of the "Musica practica, musica theoretica" series.
She has also worked as a scientific editor at the Academy of Music’s publishing house.
Between 1996 and 2002, she participated in the works of the Council for Higher Artistic Education. She has also collaborated with the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society in Poznań.
For many years, she served as a juror for the National Master's Thesis Competition for Graduates of Music Academies. She has been involved in the scientific and artistic activities of the Poznań Festival of Science and Art for many years.
Her research focuses on Polish musical culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, the composer's environment in Poznań in the 20th century, and Polish piano music. She has published over 90 articles with national and international reach. She has participated in dozens of national and international scientific conferences in Poland and abroad. She has lectured in the USA, the Netherlands, Romania, and Italy.
