URSZULA BARTKIEWICZ started her musical education in the hometown of Bielsko - Biala, where she graduated with honors from the music school of primary and high level in the piano class of Izabela Wojciechowska. During the years 1971 - 1975 she studied at the Academy of Music in Cracow in the harpsichord class of Elżbieta Stefańska, receiving a diploma with honors. As a scholar of the French Government in the period 1976 - 1977 she studied in Paris under the direction of Huguette Dreyfus where she received a diploma of the first degree. In the period from 1974 to 1987 she perfected regularly her artistic skills as an active participant in many international master classes in Zurich, Prague, Paris, Madrid, Stuttgart, working with Susanna Ružičková, Kenneth Gilbert, Rafael Puyan.
She is the laureate the Main Award at the Polish Piano Festival in Slupsk, the Audience Award at the International Harpsichord Competition in Paris, and 1st Awards - Golden Medal at the Harpsichord Competition Conservatoire Nationale de Bobigne.
She is running a rich artistic activity. Her output consists of numerous solo concerts, as well as chamber and orchestral ones. These include festival appearances, including the Polish Piano Festival, Festival in Lancut, Vratislavia Cantans, Warsaw Autumn, Festivals of Early Music in Warsaw, Lublin, Gdansk, Festival Radio entitled Szymanowski and his Europe, the Bydgoszcz Musical Tuesdays, the Bach Days in Cracow, Biennale de Danse in Lyon, and many important concerts in Poland and abroad, i.a. in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, USA, UK. She has worked with many orchestras and cultural institutions, including: with the Toruń Chamber Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, the FN Chamber Orchestra, Polish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk, the Warsaw Chamber Opera, the Art Institute of Sciences, Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Warsaw, Camerata Academia. Currently it is the Court Ballet "Cracovia Danza" led by Romana Agnel.
She has made a great deal of radio and CD recordings. She was the first one who recorded harpsichord sonatas of G.P. Del Buono from XVII century, discovered by herself harpsichord pieces of Polish composers from the second half of XVIII century as well as all the dances from the Tabulatures of Jan of Lublin . She recorded as well the entire Well-Tempered Clavier of J.S. Bach - for that 4-disc album she received in 2000 the prestigious music award - "Fryderyk '99".
An extensive repertoire of the artist includes solo, chamber, music and orchestral pieces since XVI - XXI century whichIncludes many world premieres.
Urszula Bartkiewicz also conducts an intensive research and teaching activity, particularly she is willing to undertake the innovative and conceptual work in the field of music education. On her initiative in 2004 there was incorporated for the first time the specialization of harpsichord to the hearings organized by the Centre for Artistic Education.
She received many awards and honors, including The Second degree Individual Award of Director of the Center for Artistic Education for special contribution to the development of arts education in Poland (2001), the Gold Cross of Merit (2002), the First degree Individual Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for her outstanding achievements in artistic and didactic work (2006) , scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2009).
Since 2003 she is the titular professor in the field of Music Arts. This is related to the work at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (from 1998), where in October 2009 she was appointed fot the position of Associate Professor. She teaches harpsichord classes at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz and in F. Chopin ZPSM in Warsaw. In both institutions she developed concepts and conducted the program and implemented works in order to create the historical instruments classes. She is in charge of the Department of Harpsichord, Organ and Early Music at the Academy in Bydgoszcz as well as of the Section of Harpsichord, Organ and Early Music in the F. Chopin ZPSM. He has supervised and reviewed a number of MA theses and Doctoral, postdoctoral Studies, as well as she takes part in the procedure for granting the title of professor. She publishes articles in specialized publishing houses, conducts seminars, courses of interpretation, workshops and lectures in the field of early music, i.a. at Wayne State University in the USA, the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica (Slovakia). She is the initiator and science director of Summer Methodological Courses of Early Music organized from 2007 in Bydgoszcz and Warsaw. She is the editor of music score's release of the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz „the Polish keyboard music" from the J. Elsner's publishing on keyboard or piano (2008). These pieces she recorded and released on two CDs entitled "The Polish Harpsichord Music" (2009). A CD with Elsner's pieces was nominated for "Fryderyk 2010" Award.
